“The Show Must Go On” – Broadway Plays On In Historic Blizzard

As of 9:30 AM this morning, The Broadway League has announced “the show will go on” with all Broadway shows scheduled to play regular performances March 14th as a significant snowstorm bears down on New York City and the surrounding region.

While New York City remains in a blizzard warning for the time being, forecasters have since downgraded the winter storm from their initial estimates. It is now expected New York City will see up to eight inches of snow while surrounding areas may receive up to two feet. Broadway is known to push on through all circumstances, rarely canceling all performances, often only shutting down when New York City public transportation shuts down. While above ground subway service was suspended early this morning, underground trains remain in operation with very little reported disruptions.

Charlotte St. Martin (Pictured Right), President of the Broadway League, released the following in a statement;

“The show must go on! For visitors who are staying in hotels and can’t get home, it’s a great time to see a show. Locals can see a hot show in a warm theatre! As always, the safety and security of theatre-goers is everyone’s primary concern, so those who can’t get in to the city should contact their point of purchase for questions about exchange policies.”

While the show is schedule to continue on Broadway, Off-Broadway there have already been several major cancellations regarding tonight’s performances. All performances at Joe’s Pub and The Public Theatre have been cancelled., including Gently Down The Stream with Harvey Fierstein slated to begin previews tonight. Playwrights Realm, 59E59 and the McCarter Theatre Center have also all cancelled their performances for tonight as well.

Luner on Theatre will keep you updated regarding Broadway performances tonight, March 14th, as this significant snowstorm continues in New York City and the surrounding region. If there are any changes made to the current playing schedule, we will be sure to keep you updated.
