Laura Benanti and Javier Muñoz Will Announce 2017 Drama Desk Nominations

With the 2017 spring season underway on and off Broadway, the New York theatre community is already looking ahead to the ever-approaching awards season.

The 2017 Drama Desk Awards will announce the nominees for their 62nd Annual Awards show April 27th at Feinstein’s/54 Below at 10:00 AM. Announcing this years nominees, Tony Award winner Laura Benanti and Hamilton star Javier Muñoz (Pictured Right). This year’s Drama Desk Awards will be presented June 4th at The Town Hall at 8:00 PM. Drama Desk Award winner Michael Urie returns again this year as host for the ceremony. The ceremony will be written by Bill Rosenfield, directed by Mark Waldrop with Joey Parnes Productions producing and managing.

The 2016-2017 Drama Desk Nominating Committee is composed of David Barbour, Linda Buchwald, Peter FilichiaDavid FinkleSandy MacDonaldDouglas Strassler, Zachary Stewart, and Charles Wright.

The Drama Desk Awards are presented annually in New York City and are the only theatre honors where Broadway, Off-Broadway and Off-Off Broadway compete against one another in the same categories. First presented in 1955, the Drama Desk Awards are considered some of the most important in the theatre industry being voted on by critics, journalists, editors and reporters consisting of over 140 people. Those voting on the awards are not vested in generating any particular outcome leading to winners ranging from those very well established in the industry to newcomers as well.
