Upper Darby Summer Stage is one of the nation’s oldest and most successful youth theatre programs. A staple of the Philadelphia region since 1976, the program recently celebrated its 40th season of theatre during the summer of 2015. Elf, the Musical Jr. (pictured right) is just one of six shows produced last summer. Each summer, Upper Darby presents six children’s theatre shows over the course of the summer. Ranging from revues to Jr. theatre shows, the productions are presented at the Upper Darby Performing Arts Center in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania. The 2017 Children’s Theatre season has just been announced and the question of what audiences can expect to see this summer is no longer a mystery! The 2017 children’s theatre season is slated to include;
- Annie, Jr.
- Dreamwork’s Madagascar: A Musical Adventure, Jr.
- Shrek, The Musical, Jr.
- How I Became a Pirate
- Curious George and The Golden Meatball
- Disney’s Beauty and The Beast, Jr.
Upper Darby Summer Stage took the bold step by proudly announcing their 2017 mainstage production at the end of its 41st season. The mainstage production at Upper Darby features performers ranging from 18 to 28 who are young adults pursuing theatre degrees, working theatre professionals or those seeking to continue their theatre career during the summer. The show is always a full Broadway-style production that rivals most regional theatres in the area or any professional production in downtown Philadelphia. After last year’s timeless production of Nice Work If You Can Get It, the mainstage takes it up a notch with a Philadelphia-region premiere. The 2017 mainstage production will be…
Disney’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame!
The musical recently made its U.S. debut on both the East and West Coasts playing Paper Mill and La Jolla Playhouse. Mainstage productions in recent years also include last year’s Nice Work If You Can Get It, Shrek the Musical, Fiddler On The Roof, Hairspray, Titanic, and West Side Story to name a few.
