Cats Casting Announced For Broadway Revival
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cats returns to Broadway in 2016! Just 16 years after the original closed, Cats returns to Broadway following a successful West End remount in 2014 but also amid a new appreciation among theatre-goers for Lloyd Webber having penned this season’s Tony Award nominated Best Musical, School Of Rock. Today, Luner on Theatre brings you the exciting news that casting has been announced for Cats return to Broadway this Summer!
Broadway is preparing to head to the Heaviside Layer this summer as Cats returns to Broadway! The production will begin previews July 14th before an official opening July 31st, 2016 at The Neil Simon Theatre (Pictured Right). The revival will be the first for Cats which originally opened on Broadway at the Winter Garden Theatre in 1982. The show ran there for there the next 18 years, playing over 7,400 performances, becoming the longest running Broadway show in 1997. It has since been surpassed but is currently the fourth longest-running show in Broadway history only to be surpassed by three current productions playing.
The company of the Broadway revival will include Giuseppe Bausilio as Carbucketty, Quentin Earl Darrington as Old Deuteronomy, Jeremy Davis as Skimbleshanks, Kim Faure as Demeter, Sara Jean Ford as Jellylorum, Lili Froehlich as Electra, Daniel Gaymon as Macavity, Shonica Gooden as Rumpleteazer, Christopher Gurr as Gus/Bustopher Jones, Tyler Hanes as Rum Tum Tugger, Andy Jones as Munkustrap, Kolton Krouse as Tumblebrutus, Eloise Kropp as Jennyanydots / Gumbie, Jess LeProtto as Mungojerrie, Georgina Pazcoguin as Victoria, Emily Pynenburg as Cassandra, Arianna Rosario as Sillabub, Ahmad Simmons as Alonzo, Christine Cornish Smith as Bombalurina, Corey Snide as Coricopat, Emily Tate as Tantomile, Ricky Ubeda as Mistoffelees, and Sharrod Williams as Pouncival. Richard Todd Adams, Aaron Albano, Callan Bergmann, Claire Camp, Francesca Granell, Jessica Hendy, Harris Milgrim, Madison Mitchell, Nathan Patrick Morgan and Megan Ort are all members of the ensemble. Casting for the role of Grizabella, who sings the iconic tune “Memory”, will be announced shortly!
Trevor Nunn, who directed both the original London and Broadway productions, will return as director to recreate his new vision from the 2014 London staging for New York. New to the team is Andy Blankenbuehler who will choreograph the Broadway revival. His work will be based on the original choreography and associate direction Gillian Lynne provided. The rest of the creative team includes John Napier as scenic and costume designer, Natasha Katz as lighting designer and Mick Potter as sound designer. Both The Nederlander Organization and The Shubert Organization are producing the revival.
