Tony Time: 2016 Tony Award Nominations Announced

Following weeks of award nomination lists for Outer Critics, the Drama League, Drama Desk and more, the highly anticipated Tony Award nominations were announced this morning! The countdown to Broadway’s biggest and most celebrated night is officially on! But who received honors in such a standout season? Today, Luner on Theatre brings you the full list of nominations for The 2016 Tony Awards!

Tony Award nominee Andrew Rannells and Tony Award winner Nikki M. James kicked off the 2016 Tony Awards season announcing this year’s full list of nominations LIVE from the Diamond Horseshoe Theatre at the Paramount Hotel in Times Square! With such a blockbuster season on Broadway unfolding, nerves seemed higher than usual this year as many anxiously awaited to see who The Tony Awards would choose to recognize in a year when every single production manages to stand out in its own way.

hamilton meLuner Lowdown: Congratulations to all of the nominees for this year’s Tony Awards! Hamilton managed to break history receiving 16 nominations, the most in Broadway history! Shuffle Along followed up second with 10 nominations while the Roundabout revival of She Loves Me tops out the top three with 8! Overall, the awards seemed to spread themselves out this season with five musicals being nominated for Best Musical and several productions that have already shuttered this season still receiving nominations. An exciting year for everyone involved! But like we said yesterday, there is so much more to this season than just award nominations…
