2016 Drama League Award Nominations Announced

dramaleagueaward200From the Outer Critics Circle nominations yesterday to the pending Tony Award nominations just weeks from now, New York has found itself submerged into theatre awards quicker than ever this year and in a season filled with all-star productions across the board both on and off Broadway, every nomination seems to add up. However, it should be noted the real winner here is the entire theatre community who once again saw an outpouring of love and recognition this morning as the Drama League announced this season’s top honors. Today, Luner on Theatre brings you the exciting news that the 2016 Drama League Award nominations have officially been announced!

The Drama League Awards are the oldest theatrical awards in American history. The awards were first given out in 1922 and officially formalized in 1935. Honoring both Broadway and Off-Broadway productions, The Drama League Awards are the only major theatrical award chosen entirely by audiences members; specifically the thousands of drama league members from around the nation who attend these productions. The awards mainly honor productions each season, both new and revival works, as well as individual performers for their performances throughout the season.
