She Loves Me Opens Tonight On Broadway
Another Opening Another Show! As if this season wasn’t already beaming with magnificent revivals (Color Purple, Spring Awakening, Fiddler), Roundabout officially ushers their latest musical revival to Broadway tonight! As anyone who knows Broadway knows, Roundabout and Lincoln Center are your go-to-gals when it comes to bringing back the classics. Today, Luner on Theatre brings you the exciting news that She Loves Me officially opens on Broadway tonight!
Roundabout Theatre Company’s revival of She Loves Me officially opens tonight at Studio 54 (Pictured Right) having begun previews earlier this season on February 19th. The musical comedy returns to Broadway for a limited time at Studio 54 only through July 10th. She Loves Me made its Broadway debut in April 1963 at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre where the production went on to run for over 300 performances as well as receiving five Tony Award nominations including Best Musical. Roundabout has previously revived She Loves Me, in 1993, which was also helmed by Scott Ellis and played the Brooks Atkinson Theatre for just over 350 performances.
This time around, She Loves Me stars Tony Award winner Laura Benanti (Pictured Left) as Amalia and Zachary Levi as Georg. Other leading characters include Byron Jennings as Maraczek, Gavin Creel as Kodaly, Michael McGrath as Sipos, Jane Krakowski as Ilona, Nicholas Barasch as Arpad and Peter Bartlett as Head Waiter. The ensemble of the production includes Cameron Adams, Alison Cimmet, Justin Bowen, Preston Truman Boyd, Benjamin Eakeley, Sara Edwards, Michael Fatica, Gina Ferrall, Jenifer Foote, Andrew Kober, Laura Shoop and Jim Walton. Scott Ellis (Pictured Right) returns to She Loves Me having previously directed the 1993 Roundabout revival as well. Warren Carlyle takes on the role of choreographer for the revival with Paul Gemignani as musical director. The rest of the creative team includes David Rockwell as scenic designer, Jeff Mahshie as costume designer, Don Holder as lighting designer and Jon Weston as sound designer. Larry Hochman provides orchestrations while David Krane works on dances arrangements and incidental music.
She Loves Me is a musical that features music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick and a book by Joe Masteroff. The musical comedy tells of heartwarming story of finding love the good old-fashioned way. Georg and Amalia are co-workers who aren’t exactly the best of friends. They can’t find a common ground while working together on a job where they constantly butt heads. However, each of them has an anonymous pen pal they have been writing to and falling in love with for some time now. Little do the two know, they’re writing and falling for each other. What will happen once their true identities are revealed? Only time will tell!
