Who Will Announce The 2016 Tony Award Nominations?
Broadway is preparing to kick off Tony season with two faces well-known to the awards but missing from Broadway this year. Last seen on stage fulfilling his mormon mission while she had magic to do, The Broadway League and American Theatre Wing have lined up two stage veterans to announce the annual Tony Awards nominations this season. Today, Luner on Theatre brings you the exciting news that Andrew Rannells and Patina Miller will announce the 2016 Tony Award nominations!
The Broadway League and The American Theatre Wing announced this morning that Tony Award nominee Andrew Rannells and Tony Award winner Patina Miller (Both Pictured Right) will announce the 2016 Tony Award nominations. The nominations announce is set to take place May 3rd at 8:30 AM at the Diamond Horseshoe Nightclub at The Paramount Hotel. The announcement is the official kickoff of the 2015-16 Tony Awards season following the April 28th cutoff for productions to be considered eligible for this season. As always, the announcement will be live streamed for those not in attendance. Thank you to The Tony Awards for allowing us to share the image above right!
The Diamond Horseshoe (Pictured Below Left) has become the backdrop for the nominations announcement for the past several years now proving as a perfect setting kicking off awards season for Broadway’s highest honor among the elegance of the dated nightclub.
Following the nominations announcement on May 3rd, Tony Awards season will truly kick into full swing. Just the following day, the nominees will Meet The Press May 4th, 2016 speaking to various media outlets about their nominations at the Paramount Hotel. On May 19th, 2016, the annual Tony Nominees Luncheon will take place when nominees receive their nomination certificate and celebrate one another’s achievements. These are the main two events held by The Broadway League and American Theatre Wing during Tony’s season to honor its nominees. Individual productions may also take on new projects once nominations have been announced but usually the highlighting and celebrating of a show’s success is often done in advertising and marketing materials. All of this is of course capped off by the official Tony Awards ceremony taking place June 12th, 2016 at The Beacon Theatre making it Broadway biggest and brightest night of celebration.
