Willkommen: Cabaret National Tour Kicks Off Tonight
Willkommen Back! Cabaret struck a deep chord returning to Broadway at a time where its echoes of discrimination and hate of a race reached beyond its doors into the headlines of our every day world. However, you need not hesitate to return to Berlin as Roundabout pulls out all the stops launching a national tour of it’s critically acclaimed Cabaret revival during its 50th anniversary season. And how could we forget? Life in here IS beautiful. Today, Luner on Theatre brings you the exciting news that The Kit Kat Club hits the road as the national tour of Cabaret begins welcoming audiences tonight!
The Kit Kat Club hits the road as Roundabout Theatre Company’s latest incarnation of Cabaret, based off the 1998 Tony Award winning revival, hits the road once again this time following the success of its 2014 return to Broadway. The tour kicks off tonight at The Providence Performing Arts Center in Providence, Rhode Island where it plays through Sunday. Cabaret returned to Broadway’s iconic Studio 54 in March 2014 as a limited engagement starring Alan Cumming as the Emcee (Pictured Above Right) and Michelle Williams as Sally Bowles. Sienna Miller and Emma Stone also took the stage to play Bowles during the engagement which extended far beyond its original return. The show ended up playing nearly 400 performances and running over a year again on Broadway.
Cabaret’s national tour hits the road with Randy Harrison at the helm as the Emcee and Andrea Goss (Pictured Left) as Sally Bowles. Other leading actors include Shannon Cochran as Fraulein Schneider, Alison Ewing as Fraulein Kost, Mark Nelson as Herr Schultz, Ned Noyes as Ernst Ludwig and Lee Aaron Rosen as Clifford Bradshaw. The ensemble includes Kelsey Beckert, Sarah Bishop, Margaret Dudasik, Hillary Ekwall, Lori Eure, Aisling Halpin, Leeds Hill, Andrew Hubacher, Joey Khoury, Tommy McDowell, Evan D. Siegel, Dani Spieler and Steven Wenslawski.
The entire creative team from the 2014 Broadway revival returns to recreate their work for the national tour! This team is helmed by Academy Award winner Sam Mendes (Pictured Right) as director and Academy Award nominee Rob Marshall as choreographer and co-director. Robert Cookman is music director with Patrick Vaccariello as musical supervisor, Michael Gibson providing orchestrations and David Krane providing dance and incidental music. The rest of the creative team includes Robert Brill as scenic and club designer, William Ivey Long as costume designer, Peggy Eisenhauer and Mike Baldassari as lighting designer and Brian Ronan as sound designer. Paul Huntley provides a wig and hair design.
Through the rest of the 2016, the Cabaret national tour is expected to play over 20 different cities around the country. Some places you can expect to see The Kit Kat Club pop up are; Providence, Rhode Island; Chicago; Illinois; Houston, Texas; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; New Orleans, Louisiana; Miami, Florida; Los Angeles, California; Dallas, Texas and Las Vegas, Nevada to name just a few! More cities and dates are expected to be added soon keeping the show on the road running well into 2017.
Luner Lowdown: Willkommen Back Cabaret! After seeing this revival on Broadway in 2014, I can’t for audiences to experience and re-experience Cabaret as it returns to the road. Based off of the 1998 Tony Award winning revival, the 2014 return to Broadway felt fresh, electrified by young performers and more relevant than ever in a time where almost anyone can relate to discrimination. I hope audiences enjoy Cabaret’s return as much as New York did and a new, young audience has the chance to experience this wonderful production and discover this show that never feels too old and always somewhat relevant.
Luner on Theatre will keep you updated as Cabaret returns to the road bringing The Kit Kat Club to audiences around the nation! More dates and cities through summer 2017 will soon be announced as the tour continues on the road through the rest of this year and into a second!
