Tony Yazbeck Will Lead Finding Neverland On Broadway
Broadway’s Finding Neverland is “Rearranging The Furniture”. As the show nears almost a year on Broadway, many original cast members from the production may begin to depart and be replaced. One slated to leave is the production’s leading man who now has an official replacement. Today, Luner on Theatre brings you the news that Finding Neverland on Broadway has found its new leading man, Tony Yazbeck!
Finding Neverland has announced it’s new leading man set to replace Tony Award nominee Matthew Morrison who will depart the production later this month. Morrison, who originated the role in spring 2015, will be succeeded by Tony Award nominee Tony Yazbeck. Morrison’s last performance will be January 24th with Yazbeck taking over beginning January 26th. His return will come just days after original Broadway cast member Kelsey Grammer (Pictured Above Right) returns to the production after departing in 2015. Finding Neverland debuted on Broadway just this last spring with previews beginning March 15th before it officially opened April 15th, 2015 at Broadway’s Lunt-Fontanne Theatre.
Tony Yazbeck (Pictured Left) will return to Broadway after most recently being see in On The Town last year at The Lyric Theatre. Yazbeck’s most recent theatrical endeavor took place halfway around the world as a member of the cast bringing to life Prince Of Broadway in Japan. That show’s Broadway future is hopeful but not confirmed at this time. Previous Broadway credits for Yazbeck also include Gypsy, A Chorus Line, Irving Berlin’s White Christmas, Never Gonna Dance and the 2002 revival of Oklahoma! He was also featured on NBC’s Smash television series.
Luner Lowdown: We’re incredible excited to welcome back Tony Yazbeck to Broadway having seen him perform in On The Town last season! Yazbeck is an incredible performer and will definitely shine in this new leading role he is about to step into. Yazbeck was hands down one of my favorite performers in On The Town last season not only showing off his acting chops but providing simply outstanding vocals. I cannot wait to hear the Finding Neverland songs in his own voice. In particular, “When Your Feet Don’t Touch The Ground”, which I could potentially call my favorite song in the production. It will breathe new life into the show now just about to enter its first official year on Broadway and face many theater goers will be happy to see. As mentioned above, Yazbeck most recently found himself in Japan premiering the new musical Prince Of Broadway which follows the life and career of the infamous Hal Prince. That show is hopeful for a Broadway bow but headed to Japan once financing for a U.S. production fell through late last year.
We’re looking forward to Tony Yazbeck taking the reigns of Broadway’s Finding Neverland musical in jut a few weeks! Congratulations to Matthew Morrison on an incredible run and return to Broadway this past season! We’ll keep you updated as more Finding Neverland news comes to our attention.
