A View From The Bridge Opens On Broadway
A well-known, frequently revisited play returns to Broadway tonight directly imported from across the pond following much success in London’s West End. The show, which was just seen on Broadway a few years ago, return 60 years after it first premiered on the stage and just in time for its playwrights 100th anniversary. Today, Luner on Theatre brings you the exciting news that A View From The Bridge officially opens tonight on Broadway!
A View From The Bridge officially opens tonight on Broadway at the Lyceum Theatre after beginning previews earlier this fall on October 21st, 2015. The show is running as a limited engagement on Broadway appearing through February 21st, 2016. The production originated at the Young Vic in April 2014 to over-the-top ecstatic reviews and sold out its run within hours. Following its success at the Young Vic, the production transferred to London’s West End playing the Wyndham theatre. That production, not only also sold out, but would go on to win the Olivier Award for Best Revival, Best Director and Best Actor for Mark Strong’s performance. A View From The Bridge was last seen on Broadway just 5 years ago in 2010.
Bringing the production back to Broadway is Mark Strong as Eddie Carbone, Nicola Walker as Beatrice, Phoebe Fox as Catherine, Michael Zegen as Marco, Russell Tovey as Rodolpho, Richard Hansell as Louis and Michael Gould as Alfieri. The production is mounted on Broadway by Ivo van Hove as director. The rest of his creative team includes Jan Versweyveld as scenic and lighting designer, An D’Huys as costume designer and Tom Gibbons as sound designer. Scott Rudin and Lincoln Center Theater are producers for the revival.
I remember upon hearing the news that A View From The Bridge would return to Broadway, I immediately thought “Didn’t it just do that?” But don’t get me wrong now, I am a big Arthur Miller fan and even bigger fan of View From the Bridge. It is one of those productions we see fairly frequently return to Broadway but never mind it because it is such an excellent piece in itself. I remember seeing the 2010 production (Artwork featured left) during its run on Broadway. I am definitely looking forward to seeing this new production and new take on this classic piece. I have heard incredible things, from both sides of the pond, regarding the show. Also, this production features special onstage seating on both sides of the stage. If you’re interested in that, tickets for those seats are much higher priced as you’re much closer to the action. However, rush tickets are also available making this show accessible to the next generation of theatre goers.
Don’t miss your chance to see one of the most beloved works of American theatre back on Broadway for a limited time only! As mentioned above, the show is only playing the Lyceum Theatre through February 21st, 2016! If you missed this classic during its last run on Broadway, now is a better time than ever to see this highly acclaimed British production now playing The Great White Way!
