Leading Ladies For American Pyscho Announced
A brand new musical slated to arrive on Broadway later this season is teasing theater goers with a taste of what their show might hold! In addition to its leading character, producers announced casting for additional leading roles in one of this season’s most anticipated new musicals that decided to head for Broadway after bypassing an Off-Broadway tryout. Today, Luner on Theatre brings you the exciting news of three leading ladies announced to join American Pyscho this spring on Broadway!
Producers announced Tony Award winner Alice Ripley, Tony nominee Jennifer Damiano and Heléne Yorke (Pictured Below) will join Benjamin Walker in American Pyscho this spring on Broadway! Ripley will star as Patrick’s Mother/Mrs. Wolfe, Damiano will star as Bateman’s secretary Jean and Yorke will star as Evelyn Williams, his girlfriend. The announcement marks a return for Ripley and Damiano onstage for the first time since the pair performed side-by-side in the Tony Award nominated Next To Normal (Pictured Above Right). Yorke returns to Broadway for the first time since her bow in Bullets Over Broadway in 2014 at the St. James. Additional casting will be announced at a later date.
Previews will officially begin March 24th, 2016 and no official opening night date has been set yet. The show is slated to take up residence at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre. Rupert Goold, whose work can be seen this currently with King Charles III‘s on Broadway, is set to direct with Lynne Page as choreographer. American Psycho will be presented on Broadway by Act 4 Entertainment (David Johnson & Jesse Singer), Jeffrey Richards, and Jerry Frankel in cooperation with Edward R. Pressman.
American Psycho is a new musical featuring music and lyrics by Duncan Sheik and a book by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. The musical is based on the novel by Brett Easton Ellis. The musical follows the story of Patrick Bateman, a young man living the life in 1980’s Manhattan. He has money, looks, style, status and one huge secret. In public, he and his friends take pride in buying designer clothes and eating at exclusive restaurants. In private, Patrick takes pride in another type of rule. Everything begins to change when people, including those closest to him, keep disappearing.
The addition of Ripley and Damiano to the American Pyscho bill will be a huge win for younger audiences who fell in love with the pair during Next To Normal. The show, which in my opinion seems to be carrying a younger vibe anyway, has already scored with a leading man many younger audiences loved during Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson (Walker Pictured Left) both downtown and eventually on Broadway. I think the additional casting is an exciting addition and I look forward to seeing who else joins the roster!
