On Your Feet! Opens On Broadway
Here We Are! Another new musical to the 2015-16 Broadway season officially opens tonight! The show opening keeps with the unofficial diversity theme of the season as cuban-America explodes on to the stage for arguably the first time as Broadway receives a review show like never before! Today, Luner on Theatre brings you the exciting news that On Your Feet! officially opens on Broadway!
On Your Feet! is a brand new musical that features the music of the Estefans and a book by Drama Desk nominee Alexander Dinelaris. The new musical, which is based on the life story of seven-time Grammy Award winner Gloria Estefan and her husband music producer Emilio Estefan, will tell the story of two people with an unwavering dedication to one another as they pursue the American dream. As they make their way to stardom, the two showcase their talent and music while never forgetting to honor their heritage. The musical is set to feature iconic Estefans hits such as “Rhythm Is Gonna Get You”, “1-2-3” and “Conga”!

I am so truly happy to see On Your Feet! on Broadway this season. However, it is not because it is another show filled with iconic songs from an entertainer we know and love. On Your Feet! is a true splash of diversity into the current Broadway season bringing a current sound and look of America to the stage in New York for audiences to witness. The diversity On Your Feet! brings is one of just many shows this season. However, On Your Feet! brings salsa, a flavor of cuban-American and more Broadway has not seen before. Audiences, from what I have heard, have been loving the show and I myself am looking forward to seeing it! I believe we will see this show go on to a life on tour and I think, if it was to ever happen, this would be a great show to debut in Cuba. With relations between Cuba and the United States easing, Broadway productions could easily mark the country as their next stop with a potential entertainment market lying just 90 miles from Florida. It would not only be appropriate to bring On Your Feet! to Cuba to kick off what could become an amazing partnership between countries, but a homecoming as well.
