Bob Saget Will Return To Broadway
Broadway’s dirtiest show just got dirtier! While many see this actor as a fatherly figure following his role on a beloved television show for years, many don’t know that Bob Saget is not only an incredible comedian but an incredibly dirty one as well. While Tyrone the puppet may be the biggest trouble maker Broadway currently has, it looks as though he will have some new competition in town as a new co-star is joining Hand To God for its final months on Broadway. Today, Luner on Theatre brings you the exciting news that Bob Saget will return to Broadway joining the Tony Award nominated Hand To God!
Hand To God is a play written by Robert Askins which tells the story of Jason, a shy student who finds an outlet of creativity at the Christian Puppet Ministry which is devoutly religious. Located in the small quiet town of Cypress, Texas, Jason’s relationships are put to the test as his hand puppet, Tyrone, which one was soft-spoken, takes on a shocking and dangerous personality all on its own. Tyrone’s influence over Jason grows as time passes and his complicated relationships with the town pastor, girl next door, school bully and his mother become even more complication. The play looks at and explores our fragile human nature and the things that bind us together like faith and morality.
Hand To God has announced that actor Bob Saget, best known for his role in Full House, will join the Tony Award nominated production for its final two months on Broadway. Saget will take over for Marc Kudisch in the role of Pastor Greg beginning November 3rd, 2015. Saget will finish out the Broadway run appearing for 9 weeks only through January 3rd, 2016. Following the closing on Broadway, Hand To God will transfer to London’s West End where it is set to begin performances at the Vaudeville Theatre beginning February 5th, 2016. No official casting for the West End production has been announced yet. Hand To God officially opened on Broadway on April 7th, 2015 after beginning previews on March 14th.

Saget is best known for his role as Danny Tanner on Full House appearing alongside John Stamos, Dave Coulier and the Olsen twins (Mary Kate and Ashley). He is set to return to his iconic role in the new Fuller House series hitting Netflix set to premiere in 2016. As a television host, he has America’s Funniest Home Videos for close to a decade from 1989 to 1997! He returned in 2009 to celebrate the show’s 20th anniversary. Saget is also a comedian and known for being incredibly dirty when it comes to his jokes. He released a book called Dirty Daddy and has toured many times solely as a comedian. Saget’s return to Broadway will not mark his debut. His Broadway debut came in 2007 when he appeared for four months as Man In Chair in The Drowsy Chaperone. He received a caricature at Sardi’s in early 2008.
I have to admit, this is incredibly exciting news! I was lucky enough to attend a performance of Hand To God last season and absolutely loved the production. It is just brilliant. From the cast performances on stage to the meaning of the entire production as a whole, it was fantastic. I could not be more disappointed when I heard it was set to transfer to London later this season. However, I found myself last week thinking I should head back to see the production one more time before it sets sail across the pond for its West End debut. The announcement that Saget (Had to throw in that iconic photo above) will be joining the cast not only confirms my return but only adds to the excitment of seeing this show again! If you have not seen this show, you must. It is a true work of art with an incredible meaning you won’t find yourself realizing until the very last-minute. I only hope Bob Saget’s brief appearance in this production brings even more audiences to experience Hand To God before we lose this brilliant production.
Don’t miss your chance to see one of America’s most beloved actors and comedians, Bob Saget, as he returns to Broadway this fall for nine weeks only! As mentioned above, if you like theatre; do not miss your chance to experience Hand To God on Broadway before it departs for London later this season! It is truly a work of art and there is nothing else like it. We can only hope Tyrone takes the news well and welcomes his fellow co-star!
