Blackbird Will Come To Broadway This Spring
A play produced around the world is finally coming to Broadway. While Broadway’s Belasco Theatre might have just been home to the ever fabulous Tony Award winning Hedwig And The Angry Inch, the theatre is about to take on a much darker persona as a new controversial one-act drama heads to Broadway this spring. Today, Luner on Theatre brings you the exciting news that Blackbird will hit Broadway’s Belasco Theatre beginning this spring!
Blackbird is a one-act drama by David Harrower that tells the story of a woman, Una, who tracks down a man, Ray, who had an affair with her 15 years prior. At the time of the affair, Una was 12 and Ray was arrested and sent to jail. Now 15 years later, Ray has managed to establish success under a new name and begin a new life. All of that changes when Una, now 27, finds Ray after recognizing him in a photograph and tracks him down at his workplace. The play moves between curiosity to confusion as well as anger and admiration as Una’s intentions are uncertain. As she asks questions to Ray, we wonder if she has come for revenge, a second chance at their relationship and new accusations between the two.
Producers of Blackbird have announced the show will begin previews February 5th, 2016 and officially open on March 10th. Blackbird first premiered at the Edinburgh International Festival in 2005. The production debuted in London in 2006 winning the Olivier Award for Best New Play. The play made its American debut in 2007 with dual productions running on each coast.
