Wagner College Theatre Presents CATS
Meow! Jellicle cats come out tonight as Wagner College Theatre will kick off performances for its final Main Stage production of its 2014-15 season! A musical sensation, CATS changed the world of musical theatre forever when it premiered in London during the 1980’s. The production eventually made its way to America running on Broadway for over a decade. Now a popular production of regional theaters, universities and high schools, the Princeton Review’s #1 ranked theatre program takes a jab at this pillar of musical theatre. Today, Luner on Theatre brings you the exciting news that Wagner College Theatre officially opens CATS tonight!
CATS is a musical that features music and lyrics by Andrew Lloyd Webber. The musical, based on Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats by T.S. Elliot, tells the story of an annual gathering ofJellicle cats who select one cat to ascent to the Heaviside layer. While the musical’s best known tune is the beloved “Memory”, the musical also features hits such as “The Rum Tum Tugger”, “Mungojerry and Rumpleteaser”, “Skimbleshanks” and the well known “Jellicle Ball”.
Wagner College Theatre’s CATS is the final production of the departments 2014-15 Main Stage season! The show runs April 22nd through April 25th with a second week running April 29th through May 3rd. All performances are at 8 PM with a 2 PM matinée on April 25th and May 2nd. There is only a 2 PM matinée on May 3rd. Previously on the Main Stage this season, the department presented Hello, Dolly!, Merrily We Roll Along and Monty Python’s Spamalot!
CATS at Wagner College is one of the largest productions ever to be mounted by the nationally recognized theatre department. The production includes over 40 cast members. Those include Nicole Amato as Silabub, Nick Barakos as Quaxo, Becca Barrett as Jennyanydots, Zach Berteletti as Mungojerrie, Brad Cashman as Old Deuteronomy, Jacob Cowan as Alonzo, Stephon Font-Toomer as Macavity, Sam Forin as Bustopher Jones, Rachel Houser as Grizabella, TJ Lamando as Skimbleshanks, Ryann Lillis as Silabub, Chelsea Loesel as Etcetera, Jake Tyler Marks as Pouncival, Alexis Marquardt as Exotica, Joe O’Malley as Gus the Theatre Cat, Lisa Jeanne Peterson as Bombalurina, Emma Pittman as Victoria, Jonathan Quigley as Mr. Mistofelees, Jason Rath as Rum Tum Tugger, Alec Reiss as Tantomile, Tyler Roberts as Rumpus Cat, Maria Salerno as Demeter, Sydni Session as Cassandra, Mari Skoultchi as Rumpleteazer, Daniela Sottile as ‘matinee’ Grizabella, Joshua Sottile as Munkustrap, Kelly Swint as Coricopat, Clint Maddox Thompson as Plato, Megan Viglione as Jellylorum and Julia Weber as Electra.
Swings for the production include Tom Althoff, Addi Berry, Jeanine Bruen, Serina Figueris, Matt Healy, Kyle Johnson, Stephen Kallas, Sabrina Kalman, Jeff Mills, Natalie Schaffer, Mackenzie Shay and John Tucker.
Wagner College Theatre’s Head of Dance, Rusty Curcio (Pictured Right), directs and choreographs the production. Maggie Marino Pitts (WCT Class of 2007) also choreographs with musical direction by James Higgins. The rest of the creative team includes Richard Kendrick as scenic designer, Vicki Neal as lighting designer, Kurt Alger as costume designer and Richard Kroth as sound designer. Brian Strumwasser provides makeup and wig design. KT Sanders is production stage manager.
Wagner College Theatre is a nationally ranked college theatre program located at Wagner College on Staten Island in New York City. The theatre program, which has been around since the 1960′s, has worked its way up to become one of the top ranked theatre programs by The Princeton Review each year. It has remained in the Top 5 Programs for the past 10 years and this past year ranked in at #1 in the nation. The program boosts a wonderful list of alumni and produces eight productions a year with four on the Main Stage and four in the Stage One Studio. Tonight is Opening Night for Wagner College Theatre’s production of CATS! Don’t delay in getting your tickets for this production as they are going fast! Tickets can be purchased at the box office located in Main Hall on the Wagner College Campus on Staten Island. Current Wagner College students can attend the production for free by showing their current student ID. The box office is open Monday through Friday from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
