The 2014-15 season on Broadway is heading to an end! So obviously, we are already looking forward into the 2015-16 season! With several theaters already open due to shuttered productions, several newcomers to Broadway are already being announced at this time! While the critically acclaimed Hamilton leads that pack, another historical musical will sail into New York this summer and bring to life the story behind one of the world’s most beloved songs. Today, Luner on Theatre brings you the exciting news that the new musical, Amazing Grace, will come to Broadway this summer!
Amazing Grace is a musical that features music and lyrics by Christopher Smith with a book by Christopher Smith and Arthur Giron. The musical tells the true story behind one of the world’s most beloved songs. From romance to a revolution, the production follows the story of one man who ignited a wave of chance as rebellion and redemption are put to the test in this brand new musical.
Producers of the new musical Amazing Grace proudly announced the show would bow on Broadway this summer. The production is scheduled to premiere in New York beginning previews on June 25th, 2015 and officially open July 16th. The show is set to play the Nederlander Theatre. YAY NEW MUSICAL THEATRE! Obviously, Luner on Theatre is excited to see a brand new production heading to Broadway this summer! Especially, this one. This musical tells the story of a song known and beloved by the world. So how do you make an entire musical out of the story of the creation of just one song? I guess Amazing Grace will show us. I remember reading up on the production during its Chicago run and looked in the show as well. I did not get to see the show but plan on seeing it during its Broadway run! The concept of this production alone excites me. That is, to see how a story has been formed around one of the most famous songs known to the world and how that came to be. I also am thrilled to see Josh Young, an Upper Darby Summer Stage Alum, return to Broadway! I tried to see him on Broadway during the revival of Jesus Christ Superstar but was not able to do so! I look forward to seeing Josh this time in person!
Amazing Grace will come to Broadway this spring and mark the second new musical and third production of the 2015-16 Broadway season less than a month into it! Currently, Amazing Grace will premiere alongside An Act of God and Hamilton this summer as well as play to every other current show on Broadway that will still be running. I look forward to this new show and it’s exciting New York venture! For more information, visit Amazing Grace’s Official Website, Facebook Page or Twitter.
