Need a reason to check out The Wizard of Oz on Staten Island? I don’t need to give you any! But I shall. First of all, The Wizard of Oz in itself is just a fantastic story. As I mentioned above, the musical which first came to life on the screen starring Judy Garland in 1939 has remained popular for decades. Who doesn’t love “Somewhere Over The Rainbow?” But if you want a more personal reason to do so, Mickey Tennenbaum (Pictured Right) is your reason. While I can guarantee the rest of the creative team has done plenty of hard work as well, Tennenbaum is just a champion of theatre. Having recently directed Monty Python’s Spamalot at Wagner College (The #1 ranked Theatre Program in the Country by The Princeton Review), I was lucky enough to see the production which was just fantastic. I’ve seen several productions Mickey has mounted and all of them show one thing which is that he does the work. I encourage everyone to see The Wizard of Oz at Snug Harbor’s Music Hall not only because the production is easy to fall in love with, but it will be a solid work of theatre thanks to the gentleman helming it.
