It Shoulda Been You Opens on Broadway

Filled with tons of fan favorites, talent and a lot of potential to become the little show that could, It Shoulda Been You is no musical people are simply blowing off this season filled with larger productions. The exciting new musical comedy brings to life an experience many of us have and never forget for many reasons. If those experiences didn’t have music or comedy, now is your chance to experience it all over again. Today, Luner on Theatre brings you the exciting news that It Shoulda Been You officially opens on Broadway tonight!

It Shoulda Been You is a musical which features book and lyrics by Brian Hargrove with music by Anselmi. Additional lyrics are also provided by Jill Abramovitz, Carla Rose Fisher, Michael Cooper, Ernie Lijoi and Will Randall. The musical tells the hilarious story of a wedding gone ary. Two families, from completely different backgrounds, clash as they come together to celebrate a wedding. However, when the bride’s ex-boyfriend arrives, the wedding comes to a halt and chaos ensues. Secrets are exposed as promises are broken as both families find themselves in hysterics as the bride’s sister works to make sure this disaster can still be a “happyily ever after”.

It Shoulda Been You officially opens tonight on Broadway at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre after beginning previews earlier this spring on March 17th, 2015. The production first made its premiere at the George Street Playhouse in 2011. Several of the production’s original cast and creative team members have returned for its Broadway outing.

The show is led by Tony Award winners Tyne Daly, Harriet Harris alongside David Burtka and Sierra Boggess. The production also includes Lisa HowardEdward Hibbert, Montego Glover, Josh Grisetti, Michael X. Martin, Anne L. Nathan, Nick Spangler and Chip Zien.

It Shoulda Been You is helmed by David Hyde Pierce making his Broadway directorial debut. Hyde Pierce previously staged the production during it’s 2011 George Street Playhouse run. The rest of the creative team includes Anna Louizos as set designer, William Ivey Long as costume designer, Ken Billington as lighting designer and Nevin Steinberg as sound designer. The production is produced by Daryl Roth, Scott Landis, Jane Bergère, Jayne Baron Sherman, Patty Baker, Broadway Across America, Clear Channel Spectacolor, Gloken LLC, James L. Nederlander, John O’Boyle and Judith Ann Abrams/Jacki Barlia Florin.

shoulda01_444_665I am so truly excited for It Shoulda Been You on Broadway! I have been excited about this production since it’s Broadway plans were announced just months ago! This brand new musical comedy is shaping up to be one of many highlights on Broadway this season! The show is filled with stellar talent on and off the stage. I’m thrilled to see the return of Daly, Boggess and Burtka on stage with David Hyde Pierce at the helm directing. His directorial debut for Broadway! While I have not seen It Shoulda Been You yet, I am already great things about this production! When it comes to weddings, there is already much comedy involved. I can’t imagine the stellar idea of putting all that into a musical in this new show. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing this show very soon in New York!
