24148xxWhile “I Remember It Well” may be one of the best known songs from the hit musical Gigi, not many remember the musical’s debut outing on Broadway in the 1970’s. giginew3371_444_284I am so incredibly exciting for the Broadway revival of Gigi! I remember when this first came onto the radar and was talked about being brought back with Vanessa Hudgens. I am so excited to see it finally happening. I am also excited about Gigi‘s return to Broadway fora very “Luner on Theatre” reason. There are tons of musicals that we see revivals of every couple of years. These are classic musicals that audiences love so they often find their way back to the stage sooner rather than later. Gigi is not one of those musicals despite how absolutely incredible of a show it is in itself. The 1958 MGM movie musical was a huge critical and commercial success. It won a then record-breaking nine Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Song (For the title song, “Gigi”). This is a Lerner and Loewe production. You know, the people who brought you My Fair Lady, Camelot, Brigadoon and Paint Your Wagon just to name a few of their well-known shows. This production has all the makings of an all-star outing for a show long overdue for a revival. From the stellar cast to the creative team, the producers of Gigi have pulled out all the stops. The book has received an update from Heidi Thomas, who is currently represented with the critically acclaimed Call The Midwife on BBC. Joshua Bergasse, who is also currently represented on Broadway with On The Town, has been critically acclaimed for his work on Smash on NBC and is one of the most highly anticipated up and coming choreographers on Broadway. I cannot wait to see Gigi very soon in New York.

Gigi on Broadway officially opens tonight at The Neil Simon Theatre! Don’t miss your chance to see this rare Lerner and Loewe classic as it returns to the stage! As of right now, Gigi on Broadway is currently an open-ended run with no scheduled date to close. Drop by the Neil Simon Theatre on 52nd street to experience the night they invented champagne with Vanessa Hudgens and an all-star cast! For more information, visit Gigi on Broadway’s Official Website, Facebook Page or TwitterAnd of course, be sure to check out the rest of Luner on Theatre for all your theatre news you don’t only need but want to know!
