An_American_in_Paris_posterWhen I first heard the news that An American In Paris would be adapted for the stage, I thought it was a fantastic idea! This movie is one of the best known classics of all time. A stage adaptation musical only makes sense. I am looking forward to seeing this production as it is a completely new piece of theatre but will be using iconic songs from the movie in its production. Song’s such as “I Got Rhythm”, “SWonderful” and “They Can’t Take That Away” are just a few Broadway fans will know. It will be interesting to see how it reads considering Bullets Over Broadway went this same route last season which did not fare well for the piece which closed this August just after a few months of performances. However, An American In Paris is more iconic and features more songs known and loved by an older generation. Yes, I’m talking about those who will be playing full price for those seats! The production also sets itself apart from other musicals by being a very large dance piece as well. The famous “An American In Paris” ballet, which runs 16 minutes long in the film, will come to life on the stage through a number of orchestral arrangements throughout the production. To say the least, I’m definitely excited about An American In Paris coming to the stage as it presents itself not only as a new work, but a new style of a musical for Broadway and the world to experience.
