Today, Luner on Theatre brings you the exciting news that The Country House begins previews on Broadway!
The Country House is a brand new play written by Donald Margulies. It tells the story of a woman, Anna Patterson, and her group of friends who are all longing-to-be-famous creative artists. Gathered at their Berkshire summer homes during the Williamstown Theatre Festival, the story follows the group as their weekend takes a turn where they never expected it to go. A flurry of romance, simmering jealousies and a decent amount of soul-searching is just the beginning of the weekend these friends have in story.
The Country House begins previews tonight at Manhattan Theatre Club’s Samuel J. Friedman Theatre. The production is set to officially open on October 2nd, 2014. The Country House is a brand new play that was actually commissioned by Manhattan Theatre Club through the United States Trust New American Play Commissioning Program. The play received its world premiere this past June at the Geffen Playhouse in California and was co-produced by Manhattan Theatre Club. The Geffen is a co-producer of the show’s Broadway run as well.
Leading The Country House in its Broadway debut is Tony and Emmy Award winner Blythe Danner as Anna Patterson. Joining alongside Danner is Kate Jennings Grant, Eric Lange, David Rasche, Sarah Steel and Tony Award nominee Daniel Sunjata.
Helming The Country House is Tony Award winner Daniel Sullivan (Pictured Left) who is the director of the production. The rest of the creative team includes John Lee Beatty as scenic designer, Rita Ryack as costume designer, Peter Kaczorowski as lighting designer and Obadiah Eaves as sound designer. Peter Golub has created original music for the production. Thomas Schall serves as the fight director.
