2014 Off-Broadway Alliance Award Winners Announced

header-biglogoWhile a lot of attention is paid to the big musicals of Broadway, there is a growing industry in New York that is not only theatre related but affecting Broadway in more ways than one would notice. Off-Broadway has always existed in New York but over the past several years has grown to explode with hit musicals such as Avenue Q, Heathers, Giant, and Fun Home while also incorporating unique theatrical experiences such as Sleep No More, Nothing To Hide, La Soiree and many more. While we look forward to honoring Broadway at The 2014 Tony Awards, we are taking a minute to honor the Off-Broadway productions being honored this year for their addition to the Off-Broadway season which continued to encourage growth and diversity among theatrical productions.  Today, Luner on Theatre brings you a full list of the winners of the 2014 Off-Broadway Alliance Awards!

The Off-Broadway Alliance Awards is a not for profit corporation that was created by theatre professionals to support, promote and encourage productions Off-Broadway. It also promotes and encourages making this live theatre available to an accessible, new and diverse audience base. The Alliance has helped create such items as 20 at 20, a free seminar series, the OBA Mentorship Program and the Off-Broadway Economic Impact Report. All of this has played into the increasing role of Off-Broadway in New York and highlighted the $500 million dollar annual impact it has on the city of New York.

Even if you did not win, everyone nominated should be proud of the work they have done over the past season which has contributed not only to the growth of Off-Broadway but the growth of it becoming a hot spot for new and unique work that can only be seen there in New York City.

Winners of the 2014 Off-Broadway Alliance Awards will be honored at a ceremony on June 17th at 4:30 PM at the iconic Sardi’s.
