South Pacific is a musical which features music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II and book by Oscar Hammerstein II and Joshua Logan. The musical tells a romantic story during World War II on a tropical island. An American stationed in the South Pacific falls in love with a French plantation owner but struggles to accept his children who are mixed races. Another American falls in love with an Asian woman he meets yet he worries about the consequences of loving someone of a different race. The musical not only discusses love but talks about the racial boundaries of it and how they only exist to those willing to see them.
