A French Revolution At The Jersey Shore

Luner on Theatre brought you the news of Surflight Theatre being open for business all summer long despite the fact that the venue was slammed during Hurricane Sandy less than one year ago. While we haven’t had the chance to bring you coverage of their entire season, we are happy to bring you a look at their current production playing now! Today, Luner on Theatre brings you the coverage of Les Miserables now playing at Surflight Theatre!

Surflight Theatre is located in Long Beach Island, New Jersey and is the Ocean County’s oldest live professional equity theatre. The theatre is a not for profit summer stock that brings the best of Broadway right to the beach! The theatre fills up every summer with beach-goers as young and old entertainers bring to life many theatre favorites. Surflight has a fantastic rich history in New Jersey at the beach and has survived several major disasters before. The most recent in 2010 when major financial mishaps almost led the theatre to close it’s doors entirely. The venue fought back and has managed to remain open only to deal with a major blow less than a year ago when Hurricane Sandy slammed into the Jersey shore.

The Show Must Go On For Surflight Theatre

shatto_chp6534Currently, Surflight Theatre is presenting Les Miserables. Les Miserables is a musical which features a book by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg, music by Claude-Michel Schönberg and lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer. Les Miserables is based on of the novel written by Victor Hugo. Jean Valjean has just been released from jail and is ready to make himself a new life. However, his past haunts him and the only way he can escape is past is by running from it. As he creates a new life, his experiences not only shape him but mold him into a man who realizes the most important thing in life is love.

shatto_chp3148Les Miserables at Surflight Theatre stars Bart Shatto as Jean Valjean. Shatto played the role on Broadway and was most recently seen in New York in the new musical Hands on a Hardbody. The show also stars Todd Alan Johnson as Javert, Kelly McCormick as Fantine, Alison Gleason as Eponine, Nicholas Cox as Marius, Jillian Gottlieb as Cosette, Jamiesson O’Brien as Young Cosette, Nadia Jewel as Young Cosette, Maddox Elliot Skigen as Gavroche, Vincent Crocilla as Gavroche, Kelly Briggs as Thernadier, Yvonne Strumecki as Madame Thernadier and Scott Sowinski as Enjolras.

The ensemble of Les Miserables includes Sarah Beling, Mark Blowers, Rory Conolly, Tom DeMichele, Amanda Fannon, Matthew Greenberg, Tommy Joscelyn, T.J. Larke, Amelia Millar, ElizaBeth Miller, Peter Kane, Sara Joy Kane, Ryan P.J. Mulholland and Jeff Sullivan.

shatto_chp7229Holding the entire production together and steering it is Norb Joerder who serves as Director. Henco Espag is the production’s musical director.The rest of the production team includes Stephen Cowles as scenic designer, Anna Hillbery as costume designer, Benjamin Weill as lighting designer and A&L Sound Partners as sound designer. Michael J. Iannelli is production stage manager.

Surflight Theatre is thrilled that Les Miserables is the crown production of their 64th season. Filled with hits, Surflight Theater’s 64th season is bigger and better than ever before. While some of the season has already passed, there are still plenty of opportunities to see a show at Surflight this season. The rest of their season includes:

  • Our Town (September 25th – October 4th)
  • White Christmas (November 29th – December 22nd)

Surflight Theatre is proud to present the international hit Les Miserables through August 25th! Surflight Theatre is proud to present theatrical performances Tuesdays at 2 PM and 8 PM, Wednesday at 2 PM, Thursday at 2 PM and 8 PM, Friday and Saturday at 8  PM and Sunday at 2 PM.
