Upper Darby Summer Stage Presents The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley Jr.
The Magic Returns! For 38 years running, summer has not been the same in Upper Darby. Kids waking up early, looking forward to heading to Upper Darby High School, to sing and dance all day long. So what exactly is the catch? There is none! However, there must be a catch to something that greets over 35,000 ticket holders each season and managed to sell over $50,000 worth of tickets in it’s first day of sales for summer 2013. Today, Luner on Theatre brings you the coverage of Upper Darby Summer Stage kicking off it’s 38th season with The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley Jr.!
Upper Darby Summer Stage is one of the nation’s oldest and most successful youth theatre programs. Created by Harry Dietzler in 1976, the program is home to over 700 youth and 100 staff members every summer coming together to create true magic on stage for all ages in the Philadelphia region. Upper Darby Summer Stage is located in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania at the Upper Darby Performing Arts Center. The program boosts several notable alumni such as Emmy Award winner Tina Fey, Terrance J. Nolen (One of the Arden Theatre Company’s Founders), Monica Horan (Everybody Loves Raymond), Alyse Alan Louis (Mamma Mia!), Josh Young (Jesus Christ Superstar) and the well known songwriting team Kait Kerrigan and Brian Lowdermilk.
Kicking off Upper Darby Summer Stage’s 38th Season is The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley, Jr.! The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley Jr. tell the story of Stanley Lambchop, your ordinary 10 year old, who wants to travel the world. After wishing on a star, Stanley wakes up one morning flat and decides to make his wish a reality by simply hopping in the mail! Traveling around the world from Hollywood to Paris to Hawaii and more, Stanley works to become three dimensional again to only realize by the end of his journey that the greatest place in the world to experience is home with those you love and who love you.
All children’s theatre productions run 70 minutes in length!
The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley Jr. is directed by Brian Walsh and choreographed by Angela Wertner. The show features musical direction by Brian Dietzler. Rosie Jowers is Stage Manager. The show will also features a scenic design by Jeffrey Fuga, costume design by Jillian Keys , a lighting design by Jose Antonio Dom Chacon, prop design by Shannon Powlick and a sound design by Toby Pettit. All shows are under the technical direction of Catherine Johnson with Paul Moffitt as production manager. The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley Jr. is just the first of six children’s theatre productions featured this year at Upper Darby Summer Stage! The rest of the children’s theatre season includes Disney’s My Son Pinocchio Jr., Disney’s The Little Mermaid Jr., Freckleface Strawberry, A Year With Frog & Toad TYA and Willy Wonka Jr.! The mainstage production, a full scale Broadway musical performed by youth ages 16-28, this season is Fiddler on the Roof!
