2013 Astaire Award Winners

pippin-ensemble-by-joan-marcusMore Awards? YES! We are now less then a week away from Broadway’s biggest night and we are still seeing some awards come in for this past year’s theatre season! Drama Desk, Outer Critics and more have all come and gone but there still remains a few lesser known awards! It’s our job to make sure those unknown awards become known to you! Today, Luner on Theatre brings you the winners of the 2013 Astaire Awards!

The Astaire Awards honor excellence in dance and choreography on Broadway and in film. Each year, the best of Broadway’s choreography is spotlighted in this awards ceremony which reminds us all of our favorite choreographers and even some of our favorite dancers on Broadway. This year, The Astaire Awards were presented by Patricia Watt and directed by Joe Lanteri.

Andy Mills (Cinderella)
Billy Porter (Kinky Boots)
Charlie Sutton (Kinky Boots)

Outstanding Choreographer of a Broadway Show:
Andy Blankenbuehler (Bring It On)
Warren Carlyle (Chaplin)
Peter Darling (Matilda)
Jerry Mitchell (Kinky Boots)
Josh Rhodes (Cinderella)
Sergio Trujillo (Hands on a Hardbody)
Chet Walker (Pippin)
Patricia Wilcox & Warren Adams (Motown)

tn-500_astaire06Veteran dancer Marge Champion, who last appeared on Broadway in the 2001 revival of Follies, was honored alongside Rodgers and Hammerstein Organization president Theodore S. Chapin as well during the ceremony. The night also featured a special performance by Laura Osnes who is currently playing the title character in the Broadway production of Cinderella.
