2013 Tony Awards Will Return to Radio City Music Hall

1.158200With the second half of the 2012-2013 Broadway season now underway, the chaos and countdown already begins until the 2013 Tony Awards! All the shows have set their opening dates and eligibility for certain shows/roles have already been determined! However, a two year hiatus from the iconic Radio City Music Hall,  many wondered if this year’s Tony Awards would return to it’s home or remain uptown at their latest location.  Today, Luner on Theatre is happy to report to you that the Tony Awards will return to Radio City Music Hall for the 2013 ceremony.

la-et-cm-tony-awards-ceremony-returning-to-rad-001The 2013 Tony Awards will take place at the iconic Radio City Music Hall on Sunday June 9th. The awards show will be aired on CBS beginning at 8 PM EST. The last time the awards show was held at the venue was in 2010. For the 2011 and 2012 ceremonies, the Tony Awards headed uptown to The Beacon Theatre while Radio City was home to the Cirque Du Soleil show Zarkana. No official host has yet been announced for the ceremony.

The American Theatre Wing has also announced the official cut off date for shows opening to be considered a part of the season and eligible for this year’s awards. That date is April 25th, 2013. The nominations for the 2013 Tony Awards will be announced on April 30th in New York City. Every single year, the Tony Awards are presented by The American Theatre Wing and The Broadway League. It is considered the highest honor in musical theatre in America and is the end bookmark for the theatrical awards season which begins usually in late April or early May.
