As Broadway begins to really gear up for the spring 2013 season, shows are beginning previews, rehearsals and some shows are just getting together their final details before their spring run on Broadway. Anticipation is growing over an exciting season and several productions are looking brighter then others. One of those is the first ever Broadway revival of Pippin set to take the stage this spring. Luner on Theatre is happy to bring you the full cast for the Broadway revival of Pippin.
Pippin is a musical that features music and lyrics by Tony Award winner Stephen Schwartz and a book by Tony nominee Roger Hirson. The musical is the story of a young boy searching forhis meaning and significance in life. The show uses an acting troupe, lead by the leading player, to tell the story of young Pippin. Producers of the A.R.T. production have billed the show in the following manner as well calling it, ”A bold new staging of the dark and existential musical you thought you knew. Pippin, on a death-defying journey to find his ‘corner of the sky,’ must choose between a life that’s ordinary or a flash of singular glory.”
Producers today made an exciting announcement regarding the Pippin revival stating that every cast member in the A.R.T. original production would transfer to Broadway with the show.
The Broadway cast will be led by Spider-Man cast member Matthew James Thomas in the title role. Tony and Olivier Award nominee Patina Miller (Sister Act) stars as the Leading Player, Tony Award winner Andrea Martin (My Favorite Year) stars as Berthe, Tony Award nominee Terrence Mann (Les Miserables) stars as King Charles, Tony Award nominee Charlotte d’Amboise(Chicago) stars as Fastrada, Erik Altemus (The Fantasticks) stars as Lewis,Andrew Cekala (Marie Antoinette) stars as Theo and Rachel Bay Jones (Women on the Verge…) stars as Catherine. I am definitely very excited to see this new production of Pippin. Paulus, who has proved herself already with 2 Tony Awards for Best Revival of a Musical for both Hair and Porgy and Bess, is the go to person it seems when it comes to Broadway revivals. This season, fall and spring, have found The Great White Way overflowing with productions we know very well. To say the least, it is exciting to know yet another solid revival is in store for Paulus.
So get ready for a new type of magic on Broadway this Spring as Pippin returns to New York for the first time in over 40 years!
