Walnut Street Theater Announces 2013-2014 Season

22a591507e170b970d6ac1eba886c0ecThe Walnut Street Theater located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is the nation’s oldest theatre and the state theatre of Pennsylvania. Located in the heart of Philadelphia, the Walnut has stood as the original Philadelphia theatre venue as multiple other theatre companies and tour venues have opened over the past decades. While the Walnut Street Theatre is still the middle of their 2012-2013 season, the company has proudly announce their 2013-2014 season which we are happy to bring you today!

The Walnut Street Theatre was built and opened in 1809. It is the oldest operating theatre in the English speaking world and oldest theatre in America. The first production held in the theatre was The Rivals in 1812. From 1941 to 1969, the theatre was owned by The Shubert Organization and held many pre Broadway runs for shows that would soon be very well known as A Streetcar Named Desire, The Diary of Anne Frank, A Man For All Seasons and A Raisin in the Sun just to name a few. The Walnut Street Theatre Company took over in 1983 to serve as a regional not for profit producing company and has been in place their ever since. The 2013-2014 season for Walnut Street marks the theater’s 205th season and 31st as a not for profit.

The 2013-2014 Season for The Walnut Street Theatre will include;

  • In The Heights (September 3 – October 20)
  • Elf (November 5 – January 5)
  • Other Desert Cities (January 14-March 2)
  • Arsenic and Old Lace (March 11 – April 27)
  • How to Succeed In Business Without Really Trying (May 13 – July 13)

A truly exciting year of theatre following on the heels of the current one for this theatre! This season, referred to as a “Season of Dreams”, is truly fantastic. Walnut has some solid Broadway blockbuster as well as a mixed diverse set of productions that may expand their fan base in the Philly region.

200-music-manCurrently, the Walnut Street Theatre is running The Music Man through January 6th, 2013! The rest of the season includes Oscar Wilde’s An Ideal Husband running January 15th until March 3rd, Good People running March 12th until April 28th and ending their season with Grease running May 14th until July 14th. The building is located at 825 Walnut Street Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19106.
