On the Road To Heaven with the National Tour of Sister Act
Heaven may just be coming to your hometown! No, I’m not talking about the actual paradise no one has ever seen but something pretty darn close may be rolling into town before you even know it. It’s another National Tour and we are the only one bringing you the coverage! Today, Luner on Theatre brings you a first hand look at the new National Tour of Sister Act now making its way across the United States!
Sister Act is a Broadway musical that kicked off its first ever National Tour on October 2nd in Toronto’s at the Ed MirvishTheatre. The tour will bring the heavenly words of these sensational sisters to over 25 major cities in the United States. Some of these cities include Boston, Hartford, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Seattle, Denver and Tampa Bay just to mention a few!
The first National Tour has put together some fantastic Broadway veterans as well as a few stragglers from the Broadway production of Sister Act. Ta’Rea Campbell (Book of Mormon, Lion King) leads the entire production in the spotlight as Deloris Van Cartier. Other members include Hollis Resnik (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Les Miserables) as Mother Superior, Kingsley Leggs (Sister Act, The Color Purple) as Curtis Jackson, E. Clayton Cornelious (Wonderland, The Scottsboro Boys) as Eddie Souther, Lael Van Keuren (Sister Act) as Mary Robert, Florrie Bagel as Mary Patrick, Diane J. Findlay (42nd Street, Promises, Promises) as Mary Lazarus, Todd A. Horman (Priscilla Queen of the Desert) as Joey, Ernie Pruneda (Sister Act) as Pablo, Charles Barksdale (Fat Camp) as TJ, and Richard Pruitt (42nd Street, White Christmas) as Monsignor O’Hara.
The company will also include Melvin Abston, Brian Calì, Alysha Deslorieux, Karen Elliott, Danny George, Blair Goldberg, Erin Henry, Wendy James, Trisha Jeffrey, Mary Jo McConnell, Ashley Moniz, Michelle Rombola, Jason Simon, Angie Marie Smith, Tricia Tanguy, Kelly E. Waters and Dashaun Young.
Sister Act is a Broadway musical that features music by Alan Menken with lyrics by Glenn Slater with book by Douglas Carter Beane, Cheri and Bill Steinkellner. The musical most recently appeared on Broadway where it ran at The Broadway Theatre from March 2011 to August 2012. The musical was nominated for 5 Tony Awards including Best Musical and received mostly positive reviews all around from the press. The show even featured Raven-Symoné performing in the role of Deloris Van Cartier before it closed.
