Luner on Theatre at the Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids Flea Market
Saying Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids is an amazing organization would be a major understatement. This organization is responsible for raising millions of dollars annually for an amazing cause many people fight for and believe in. One of the organization’s best traditions returned to life this past Sunday with the Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids Flea Market. Luner on Theatre got the chance not only to spend some money for an amazing cause but meet some pretty amazing people as well.
The Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids Flea Market takes place annually in September on 44th Street and in Shubert Alley. For the annual fundraiser, most Broadway shows and organizations relating to Broadway, come out and set up a table where you may find some of the coolest theatre memorabilia to ever see the light of day. From props used in legit productions to speciality items made just for this day, the Broadway Cares Flea Market always draws hundreds to midtown Manhattan for a one of a kind day. Most recently, the giant sale has also had to extend into Times Square were the Grand Auction for the most part is held.
If you think everything I mentioned above sounds great, hang on because that’s not all. There is a table where you can meet some of your favorite Broadway stars (which change hourly) and even get a picture with them! However, since this is New York, many times you’ll be able to just spot one of your favorite’s wandering around maybe even looking for something to buy! For example, check out this photo we took of Andrea McArdle (Far Left) who we spotted in Shubert Alley! And that’s not all we saw on Sunday! Luner on Theatre, while shopping of course, made note to check in with some famous faces we saw along the Flea Market route! So who exactly did we find ourselves bumping into?
Pretty amazing day if you ask me! It was truly a once in a lifetime chance to bump into these people on the streets of New York. All in all, the Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids Flea Market for 2012 raised a grand total of $681,892 breaking previous records for this event! A truly amazing day! Congratulations to all who helped support this amazing cause! For more information, check out the official Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids Website.
