Once Upon A Time Players Present Legally Blonde the Musical
Omigod! Omigod you guys! In the heat of Summer 2012, who wouldn’t want to be legally blonde? And while it seems like everyone this summer has jumped on a blonde bandwagon, Luner on Theatre is only bringing you coverage of one production this summer! The Once Upon A Time Players are back on Luner on Theatre and with their Summer 2012 season! Beginning tonight, the Once Upon A Time Players continue their Summer 2012 season at Washington Crossing’s Open Air Theatre with the hit musical Legally Blonde!
Once Upon A Time Players is a theatre company based out of Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Founded in 2006 by Brendan Stackhouse, the company has grown from producing one show a year to now between six and eight productions annually. The company describes itself in the following way on its website:
“Founded in 2006, The Once Upon a Time Players L.L.C. are a professional organization that performs high quality theatre at a low cost. Through producing a varied season of 6 shows a year, we ensure that the communities we perform in receive a unique, meaningful, and entertaining theatre experience. But theatre is about more than the audience. The Once Upon a Time Players also strive to give the actor, dancer, and designer a place to practice their craft and even earn some money doing it. In a collaborative and fun setting, artists are able to fine tune and practice their craft and take pride in the end result.”
Based on the hit movie of the same title, Legally Blonde is a musical following the story of Elle Woods who hits the road and heads east to Harvard Law after her “Serious” boyfriend ditches her. While the road might not be easy, Elle hits the books and makes new friends along the way discovering that if she keep is “Positive”, being true to who you are is never out of style. She also finds some romance in an unexpected area while always being supported by her own greek chorus, Delta Nu. Success is just around the corner for Elle even though she doesn’t expect it showing us that if you believe in yourself, anything is possible. The musical features music and lyrics by Laurence O’Keefe and Nell Benjamin and book by Heather Hach. The show includes such hits as “Omigod You Guys”, “Chip On My Shoulder”, “So Much Better” and “Bend and Snap”.
The cast includes Shannon Malecki, April Lavalle, Robby Haltiwanger, Paige McNamara, Max King, Sammi Cohen, Chelsea Vann, Thomas DeMichele, Brittany Cattaruzza, Molly Barson, Karin Bryens, Ailsa Hoke, Chelsea Robinson, Keland Sarno, Brian Dratch, TJ Lamando, Alec Moss, Dan Kriss, Joe Stackhouse, Ben Cramer, Allie Dufford, Lily Dwoskin, Ashley Burger, Emily Cobb, Valerie Glerum, Olivia Puckett, Cassie West, Julie Dwoskin, Olivia Scotti and Elizabeth Miller. There is a variety of double casting which changes daily for the performances. Exact roles for each of the names listed above can be found out by attending a performance. The production is directed and choreographed by Brendan Stackhouse. Musical direction will be by Michael Zweig. Prerna Bhatia is Stage Manager for the production.
Legally Blonde played on Broadway from 2007 to 2008 at The Palace Theatre and received much positive praise from critics and especially from th New York theatre audience. The musical was nominated for 7 Tony Awards. However, it did not win any. It was taped for television several times by MTV and was also aired on tv. MTV continued their success with Legally Blonde by launching a hit telvision show Legally Blonde – The Musical: The Search for Elle Woods which found the replacement for the new lead once Laura Bell Bundy stepped aside later in the run. Since Legally Blonde‘s closing on Broadway, there have been two national tours of the production.
