Tony Time: 2012 Tony Award Winners Announced

It almost surreal that Broadway’s biggest and best night has come and gone already. The 2012 Tony Awards was an epic night of Broadway Theatre is seemed filled with everything and anything Broadway. The show, hosted by Neil Patrick Harris, delivered some major expected wins but also surprised many people in various categories. Something we always love to see is not only those nominated, but whose who win and deserve to at that. Today, Luner on Theatre brings you the complete list of your 2012 Tony Award Winners!

From Newsboys to Superheroes to Gershwins to the passion of music, this year’s Tony Awards ceremony brought to life the best aspects of theatre in a way people have not been able to experience in years through the Broadway musical. Fantastic original pieces and stunning recreated revivals hit the stage like never before for the 2012 Tony Awards. It was a big night for the new musical Once, based off the award winning film, which took home 8 Tony Awards in total. Second place went to Peter and the Starcatcher which received 5 Tony Awards. Other then those two, many other shows received few awards. Newsies, Nice Work If You Can Get It, Death of a Salesman and The Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess all received 2 Tony Awards each. Follies, Venus in Fur, Clybourne Park, Other Desert Cities and One Man, Two Guvnors all received 1 Tony Award during the course of the night. But who exactly won what for what?   • Follies was “robbed” in the best revival category! Was it due to its originating at Kennedy Center? The fact that it was directed by Eric Schaeffer? The fact that Sondheim ranted in the New York Times about Porgy and Bess? The fact that it is not still running? All of these? None of these?

  • Mary Antoinette Perry was the distant cousin of Frank Cady and the newest hero who gave his life saving a young girl in Florida, Alan B. Hall! “Uncle” Alan Hall is watching over the Tony Winners from the heavens!
