Neil Patrick Harris will Return to Host 2012 Tony Awards
In the middle of a fantastic theatre season currently taking place on Broadway, we still have plenty of shows to look forward to opening this great season and then of course the beginning of the 2012 Awards Season. And the biggest night of theatre on Broadway just got a whole lot better already. The American Theatre Wing proudly announced that Neil Patrick Harris would return for his third time to host the 2012 Tony Awards.
Neil Patrick Harris is no stranger to Broadway or the theatre community. A famous actor of both the stage and the screen, he has performed in a variety of venues from television to musical theatre. He is a two time Emmy Award winner. He has performed in Broadway productions such as Assassins, Proof and Cabaret. And was most recently seen in the New York Philharmonic’s production of Company. He can also be regularly seen in the hit telvision show How I met Your Mother as Barney Stinson on CBS. He has also appeared on the hit FOX television show Glee as Mr. Bryan Ryan where he performed with fellow Broadway star Matthew Morrision.
This will be the third time Neil Patrick Harris (Or NPH for short) has hosted The Tony Awards. He first hosted the 2009 Tony Awards to much success. He scored with the audience consistently through out the night with great skits here and there including creative aspects such as writing his own song with all the winners. Sean Hayes hosted the awards show in 2010 but NPH was brought back in 2011 to help celebrate an evening of theatre for one of the brightest seasons the Broadway scene had going in a very long time. He also had worked to even top himself from his previous hosting gig with the show just two years previous.

As for the 2012 Tony Awards, Neil Patrick Harris will also produce the event along with Ricky Kirshner and Glenn Weiss of White Cherry Entertainment. He also did this for the 2011 Awards. The producers are very excited to have him back on board saying:
“We’re excited to be working once again with the extremely talented Neil Patrick Harris. Last year’s show was such a success and we can’t wait to bring it to new heights this year!”
And of course, Neil Patrick Harris himself is thrilled to be returning to the production to act and produce yet again! He has been quoted as saying:
“I’m thrilled to be a part of this year’s Tony Awards. Not only will I be shining a spotlight on the best that Broadway has to offer, but hopefully I’ll score some free house seats to a show or 5.”
All of this is very exciting for the Broadway theatre community of course! After an epic season last year with hits such as The Book of Mormon, The Scottsboro Boys, Catch Me If You Can, Sister Act and Anything Goes justt to name a few – it would seem as though Broadway could not have gotten any better this year. However, this year on Broadway is proving to be just as fantastic with hits such as Disney’s Newsies, Once the Musical, Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita, Follies and Leap of Faith just to name a few of the current productions lighting up Broadway. This season on Broadway is sure to be just as bright bringing plenty of new pieces into the spotlight and dusting off older pieces we have forgtten our love for.
The 2012 Tony Awards promise to be an exciting night of theatre. Not only because the season is offering a fantastic wide variety of options. But also now because Neil Patrick Harris will be at the helm of celebrating it once again.
