Thats So Deloris? Raven Symone Headed to Broadway’s Sister Act
Broadway’s divine musical Sister Act is looking like its getting an update this Spring as yesterday producers of the musical announced a casting replacement for a major portion of the production. Patina Miller, who originated the role in both London and on Broadway, will step aside this March and introduce Broadway to the new Deloris Van Cartier, Raven Symone.
Sister Act is a Broadway musical that features music by Alan Menken with lyrics by Glenn Slater with book by Douglas Carter Beane, Cheri and Bill Steinkellner. The musical has been described in the follow way: “When disco diva Deloris Van Cartier witnesses a murder, she is put in protective custody in the one place cops are sure she won’t be found – a convent! Disguised as a nun, she finds herself at odds with both the rigid lifestyle and an uptight Mother Superior. Using her unique disco moves and singing talent to inspire the choir, Deloris breathes new life into the church and community, but in doing so blows her cover. Soon the gang are giving chase, only to find themselves up against Deloris and the power of her new found Sister Hood.”
Raven Symone is a 26 year old television actress who is known best for her roles in The Cosby Show, Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper and Thats So Raven. Producers of Sister Act announced yesterday that Symone would succeed Patina Miller in the Broadway production which is currently playing at The Broadway Theatre. She has signed a contract to play the leading role of Deloris Van Cartier for a six month period. She is most famous for her work with Disney on Thats So Raven and The Cheetah Girl movies.
