Luner on Theatre is Launching Into London!
Chip Chip Cheerio! Can’t seem to get enough theatre from your favorite theatre blog!? No worries folks! Luner on Theatre is taking off on our latest adventure…Literally! Luner on Theatre is very excited to announce we are taking you to the West End for everything you need to know about theatre for Spring 2012 as Luner on Theatre launches across the Atlantic Ocean into our latest series, London Lookout!
Say hello to Luner on Theatre’s newest edition to the team; Molly Tom! Molly Tom is a 20 year old who hails from Waukesha, Wisconsin. She is currently a junior at Wagner College majoring in Arts Administration with a combined concentration in theatre, music and art in New York City. For the Spring 2012 semester, Molly will be studying abroad in London, England with IES aboard. And in her time there, Molly is joining the team here at Luner on Theatre to give us a perspective a theatre we usually don’t get to have around here; a view into theatre on the West End.
London Lookout is the name of this new series we will be bringing to you! And what exactly can you expect to see in this new series? Every other week Molly will be bringing us a blog post written by her pertaining to something theatrical on the West End. This could range from theatre news to a theatre review of a show she has gotten the chance to check out. She has a lot of plans in store and we’re happy here at Luner on Theatre to be teaming up with her for this new series!
We figured since she is going to be around for a while, you should get to know a little about Molly and her theatrical background! Molly has been involved with theatre since elementary school and continues to be involved in theatre to this day, obviously. She is well rounded in theatre as a whole having performed, worked on technical aspects and dealt with the administrative side of the business. Her first show she performed in was The Music Man and mentioned her favorite performances over time have been in Anything Goes and Crazy For You. As for the technical side of things, her favorite work was as technical director, lighting designer and board operator for a production of Playing For Time. She has continued to work on productions in various roles through out her years so far at Wagner College through the Wagner College Theatre department.
When we asked Molly about her favorite Broadway show, she mentioned she really enjoys a lot of shows but if she had to pick a favorite, it would be West Side Story. “Its classic. It has good music, good dancing and a classic tale.” Tom says. And when I continued talking to her about Broadway and her favorite Broadway moments, I got some pretty cool answers. Molly first got to experience Broadway theatre in her Sophomore year of high school and was “floored by the caliber of theatre”. And her favorite Broadway moment? It occurred during her visit to check out the recent Broadway revival of Guys and Dolls.
“My favorite Broadway moment was when the tracking system in the recent revival of Guys and Dolls got messed up so they had to stop the show. I guess I just didnt think that Broadway had technical issues and I was excited it wasnt perfect. Ya know, live theatre.”
And while Molly does have school work and plenty of other plans while in Europe for the semester, she did share with us some of what she is most excited to check out on the West End. They included Crazy For You, Matilda the Musical (Pictured Right), Jerusalem and War Horse. She’d also like to check out Children of Eden, Les Miserables, Singin’ in the Rain, Pippin, One Man/Two Guvners and of course something Shakespearian.
Luner on Theatre is so excited to be bringing you this new series, London Lookout, with the help of Molly Tom! We are also so excited to have another person on board here writing for the blog and writing about something we have actually never touched upon! Again, check back about every other week for West End theatre news or reviews all written by Molly!
