Tappin’ & Turkey; Broadway Takes the Streets for the Annual Macy’s Day Thanksgiving Day Parade
Gobble Gobble Gobble! Happy Thanksgiving Everyone! And welcome back as we here at Luner on Theatre are wishing you a happy holiday in a “Luner on Theatre Fashion” of course as we break down for you the Broadway business of turkey day 2011! Numerous Broadway shows are taking it to the streets for multiple annual Thanksgiving Day Parades and we’re here to give you your 2011 Thanksgiving Broadway Breakdown!
Each year, the Annual Macy’s Day Thanksgiving Day Parade sweeps through New York City fillied with celebrities, balloons, floats and of course performances by some of your favorite Broadway shows in the performance stage area! This year, the Macy’s Day Parade has lined up some of the hottest performances on Broadway for you including a sneak peek into a new musical making its way to Broadway this spring! All the musicals listed below will be taking place in the Macy’s Day Thanksgiving Day Parade which is featured on NBC. So whats the low down for Thanksgiving Day performances?
Kicking off the morning with a preview performance of the hottest show in town (despite the fact that it isn’t even officially on Broadway yet) is the new hit Disney musical Newsies the Musical! Performing from Herald Square, the newsboys are back and reclaiming the town as they perform their hit tap number “King of New York”! Their performance is scheduled to be one of the first of the day and will take place during the 9 AM hour.
Next up, prepare to be dazzled and delighted with a hit performance from the most outlandish, fiercest and fabulous show on Broadway as Priscilla: Queen of the Desert takes the stage! Performing a medley of their greatest and brightest numbers, this cast of 23 will have you asking for more as they strut their stuff for the turkey day celebration! Their performance is scheduled to appear during the 9:30 AM hour half slot!
Showing us how to take care of business up next is the hit revival of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying featuring Daniel Radcliffe! Performing their show stopping number we got a preview of at the Tony Awards, the anniversary revival cast will perform the hit number “Brotherhood of Man” in a fantastic performance filled with great vocals and fantastic choreography! This performance will be featured during the 9 AM hour.
Close to wrapping everything up in a divine manner of course is the hit new Broadway musical straight from London, Sister Act the Musical! Based off the movie of the same name, the cast of Sister Act will perform their song “Spread the Love”, only appropriate on Thanksgiving of course, to wrap up what is set to be a fantastic hour of Broadway for the parade! This performance is set to take place sometime during the 9 AM hour.
Turning off the Dark live on air? Oh yes, the new $75 million dollar Broadway musical Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark will also appear tomorrow in the parade performing live! Performing a medley of songs from the blockbuster musical which features music by U2’s Bono and The Edge! This musical performance will close out the Broadway hour of the parade as they are set to hit the stage (Figuratively not literally) around 9:35 AM.
So there it is folks! A fantastic hour of Broadway performances set up for you all and scheduled by the Annual Macy’s Day Thanksgiving Day Parade! However, if you’re not a fan of the New York Parade or want some other Broadway variety, we might just have something for you!
Featured on CBS tomorrow morning will be the Tony award winning cast of the 2011 Tony Award winning Best Revival, Cole Porter’s Anything Goes! Performing the hit song “You’re the Top”, this tip tappin’ musical will bring it out and break it down in an unforgettable performance you do not want to miss! Their performance on CBS is scheduled to take place sometime between 9-9:30 AM!
Also being featured on CBS tomorrow is the 2010 Tony Award winning Best Musical Memphis! Now starring Adam Pascal, the soul of Broadway will return in a performance of their hit song “Radio”. However, the performance has been pre-recorded which means that we do not have a definite time for the airing of it. The performance will air on CBS sometime during the 9 AM to 12 PM parade slot so keep checking!
