Wagner College Theatre Presents Assassins October 23rd
One Night Only! Each year, Wagner College Theatre finds a way to honor and bring together its noted and celebrated alumni in some fashion that seems fitting for everyone. This year instead of a party or gala, the theatre department has decided to do what it does best; Theatre. Tonight, Wagner College Theatre alumni, faculty and friends will come together tonight for a special One Night Only performance of Assassins.
Bold, original, surreal, disturbing, thought-provoking and alarmingly funny, ASSASSINS is perhaps the most controversial musical ever written. This most American of musicals lays bare the lives of nine individuals who assassinated or tried to assassinate the President of the United States, in a one-act historical “revusical” that explores the dark side of the American experience. From John Wilkes Booth to Lee Harvey Oswald, Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman bend the rules of time and space, taking us on a nightmarish roller-coaster ride in which assassins and would-be assassins from different historical periods meet, interact and in an intense final scene inspire each other to harrowing acts in the name of the American Dream.
Directed by David A. Miller, with musical direction by Carl Haan, the cast features Wagner College Theatre alums from 1985-2011 – Matthew Eamon Ryan ’97 (Proprietor); Jason Sirois ’97 (Leon Czolgosz); Alan Pagano ’06 (John Hinckley, Jr.); Frank Williams ’97 (Charles J. Guiteau); Craig Laurie ’99 (Giuseppe Zangara); Thomas Baldinger ’98 (Samuel Byck); Keely Davenport ’11 (Lynette “Squeaky” Fromme), Lisa De Respino Bennett ’85 (Sara Jane Moore); Mark Cajigao ’94 (John Wilkes Booth); Christopher DeRosa ’10 (Balladeer); Steven Lowell ’95 (David Herold/Billy); Robyn Ruehl-Lippert ’97 (Emma Goldman, Ensemble); Scott Wichmann ’95 (Lee Harvey Oswald) and Kelly Shook ’02; Meridoc Burkhardt ’01, Brett Radek ’01 and Wagner faculty member Mickey Tennenbaum (Ensemble).
