Upper Darby Summer Stage Presents Narnia
Escaping a war only to find yourself in the middle of another one? Thats the story we’re following this week at Upper Darby Summer Stage! Now in its third week of children’s theatre shows, this week follow the four Pevensie children through the wardrobe into a magical land filled with wild animals, an awfully cold witch and the mission to fulfill an ancient prophecy as this week Upper Darby Summer Stage proudly presents Narnia!
Upper Darby Summer Stage is a nationally recognized theatre program that each year produces six children’s theatre shows, 1 main stage production, a night of one acts and a combined dance troupe/cabaret show. The program, now in its 36th year, was created by executive and artistic director Harry Dietzler. The program has over 700 participants and 100 staff members.
Narnia is based off of the first book of the series Narnia by C.S. Lewis which is titled The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. The Pevensie children (Peter, Susan, Edmond and Lucy) have been sent to a countryside estate to avoid to terrible bombings of London during World War II. However, when a simple game of hide and seek leads to the discovery of a magical land through a wardrobe, the children suddenly have a much larger problem on their hands. As Edmond their brother befriends the White Witch who has put an evil spell over Narnia, Peter, Susan and Lucy meet the great and notorious Aslan and form an army. They join his army and suddenly find they have fled one war only to only end up in the middle of another. With the quest to fulfill an ancient prophecy and the fate of Narnia in their hands, Can the Pevensie children save the day and Narnia?
As previously stated, this production is the third out of six children’s theatre shows this summer for Upper Darby Summer Stage. Narnia is directed by Summer Stage veteran Brian Walsh. Choreography is by Abby Shunskis with Musical Direction by Edward Pierson. Allie Steele is the Stage Manager. The set for Narnia was designed by Adam Riggar with a lighting design by David Todaro. Costumes are designed by Julia Poiesz. And as always, the unit set Summer Stage will be using all Summer was designed by Lindsey Mayer.
This production for Summer Stage features around 70 cast members. Also, something worth noting is that this production runs longer then most of the other children’s theatre productions. Run time is currently around 1 hour and 15 minutes.
