Tony Time: Performances Please!

What’s an awards ceremony without some live performances!? And what better awards ceremony where you have some of the greatest live performers in the world to do so! And what do I mean by “greatest performers in the world’? Broadway actors and actresses perform their shows 8 times a week not to mention anything else they do on the side such as cabarets, vocal lessons or extra rehearsals. So it is only right that The Tony Awards feature performances by casts! So what is this gearing up to look like?

The 2011 Tony Awards is one that will only be filled with performances soaked with talent. In a Broadway season like no other, this year’s numbers whether its one person or an ensemble, you will be wowed! I promise you that! We’d like to apologize for not knowing all of the songs that will performed by each individual cast. The Tony Committee is trying to keep some things secretive about this year’s awards. So this year’s line up is looking like this:

Besides the shows listed above nominated for either Best Musical or Best Revival of a Musical, The Tony Awards has planned several other performances by current Broadway shows for an evening honoring theatre! But what are they?

Memphis! The 2010 Tony Award winning Best Musical will perform a number just one year after they debuted on Broadway! Featuring Chad Kimball and Montego Glover, the show is sure to perform a number that will bring down the house in another one of Broadway’s rock n’ roll musicals! I’m sure this second performance will help more people understand what Memphis is about if they don’t know. For more information, check out The Official Website for Memphis on Broadway.

Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark! In what may be one of the most anticipated performances of the evening, Reeve Carney and Jennifer Damiano will perform a number from Broadway’s biggest disaster and most anticipated show of all time! Their performances of their new material, after a three week overhaul, will hopefully get the image out of this made over Spiderman musical! Let’s just hope they don’t try to fly in or anything! But what if they did!? We’ll have to see! For more information on how to Turn Off the Dark on Broadway, check out Spiderman’s Official Broadway Website.

John Leguizamo’s Ghetto Klown! John Leguizamo in his one man showed that has left audiences stunned all year in New York City will perform a piece from his show about his life! This performance, which is considered a special theatrical event, could not be nominated for any Tony Awards so the producers of this show have brought him to you! New York Philharmonic’s Company! The cast of the limited run of the New York Philharmonic production of Company will reunite at the Tony’s to perform which includes such performers like Katie Finneran, Patti LuPone and the host of it all himself, Neil Patrick Harris! A even larger star studded cast will fill the stage for a performance you will surely remember!

And there are your performances for the 2011 Tony Awards! However, I am going to say with Neil Patrick Harris as host and Broadway at its best in recent years, who knows what is really planned! A musical number could really break out at any point! But I mean after all, it is Broadway. And I have to admit if a musical number randomly broke out, I wouldn’t hate it.

Neil Patrick Harris though I’m sure does have some magic up his sleeve for this years Tony Awards! He has said the following when asked about hosting the awards and any special surprise performances he may have in mind:

“Since they’re closed for retooling, we’re using all the rigging equipment from ‘Spider-Man.’ What could possibly go wrong,”

What a joke! Except, the producers of the Tony Awards then said the following:

We’re thrilled to have Neil back as our host,” And we’re even happier he fits in the ‘Spider-Man’ rigging.”

UT OH! I’m getting the feeling that all these Spiderman jokes are not just for the heck of it! Will Neil Patrick Harris attempt to Turn Off the Dark at this year’s Tony Awards?

So what exactly should you expect on Sunday night?
