Drama Desk Award Winners Announced!

On Monday May 23rd, 2011, another round of theatre awards swept into New York City during the theatre awards season. The 56th Annual Drama Desk Awards were given out to both Broadway and Off-Broadway productions deemed exceptional for this past season. The awards seemed to work out spreading out many of the awards to a variety of shows.

Many of the familiar faces for particular awards were seen at the Drama Desk Awards ceremony as they have been for other awards ceremonies these past few weeks. Such familiar faces would include War Horse for Outstanding Play, The Book of Mormon for Outstanding Musical and Anything Goes for Outstanding Revival of a Musical. This three set line up is becoming quite familiar as we slowly approach the biggest awards day for Broadway; The Tony Awards! However, some of this years biggest hits such as Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson and The Scottsboro Boys could not be nominated for their Broadway run due to the fact that they were nominated last year for their Off-Broadway runs. Sad such excellent productions can’t be nominated again but that is going to make Tony night this year even more interesting!
