Astaire Award Winners Announced

May 16th is turning out to be a semi big awards day for the Broadway theatre community this year. Not only earlier today were the Outer Critics Circle awards announced but not too shortly after, the Astaire Award winners were announced.

The Astaire Awards are an annual award given to honor and recognize those who have succeed in excellence in dance on Broadway and in film. This year on Broadway there are a huge variety of dance shows which all seem to shine in their own way. Anything Goes brings back to life the classic Broadway tap show leaving the audience in awe of a art through dance and sound. Jerry Mitchell brings sexy back to Broadway in Catch Me If You Can through show stopping number after show stopping number. And Susan Stroman created unforgettable choreography for the untold story of The Scottsboro Boys earlier this year.

And there they are! Like I said, a short but honorable list! So if you’re a dancer and interested in seeing a Broadway show thats big on dance, check out one of the ones listed above! Catch Me If You Can and Anything Goes are both fantastic choices displaying two completely different styles of dance but two styles that have helped shape Broadway into what it is today. The Scottsboro Boys is no longer on Broadway but may be making its return soon! It will hopefully be working its way around the country so if you get the chance to see that, see it!
